Christian Montanari clocks the second best time at Adria
The race will be held tomorrow at the circuit of Adria. Montanari set a time of 1’12”293, just two tenths down on the driver in pole, Karl Wendlinger. It was a performance that confirmed the MC12 and the San Marino driver’s pace. This form has been seen in past qualifying sessions and allows Montanari and his partner, Miguel Ramos, to aim for a podium spot. The qualifying session was a close run thing and the top ten finishers were bunched within a second of each other.
Andrea Bertolini qualified his MC12 in eighth place, 650 thousandths off pole (1’12”701). His team mate Alessandro Pier Guidi came next (1’12”853). The two Playteam Sarafree cars had earlier been among the leaders in free practice (in session 1, Bertolini/Piccini set the second fastest time). Bertolini/Piccini, in particular, will be hoping to collect crucial championship points and will be able to count on the high performing Pirelli tyres selected after the recent tests at Valencia. Championship leader Thomas Biagi will start on the fifth row thanks to a time of 1’13”041, nine tenths down on pole. It was a fine effort by the driver from Bologna considering that he had to cope with 95 kg of ballast. JMB Racing will be fielding an MC12 in the Citation Cup and presented a new crew for the Adria race: young Swiss driver Henri Moser will partner Peter Kutemann while Frenchman Alain Ferté, with his solid experience of GT races, will share the drive with Ben Aucott.
Aucott/Ferté claimed first place (twelfth overall) with a time of 1’14”812 and Kutemann/Moser will start from third (twenty-third overall) after clocking 1’17”270. Tomorrow’s warm-up session will take place at 13.40 with the two-hour race programmed for 19.45.
