Miguel Ramos and Alexander Negraõ secured the second win of the season for the Vitaphone Racing team as it consolidated its lead at the top of the Teams’ standings. The Bertolini/Bartels crew collected an excellent sixth place after making their way up the field from tenth. They finished this highly even after damaging the left rear tyre of their Maserati (and making a pit stop) while trying to overtake Gollin’s Corvette.
Bertolini/Bartels’ continued good form means that they stay in the Drivers’ championship lead with just two races to go to the end of the season. The cars rolled off to an even start as the grid positions were maintained. This all changed on lap 23 when Bertolini overtook Gollin to move into sixth. Then, on the fortieth lap, his partner Bartels scorched past Sharp/Peter’s Aston Martin and then, on lap 47, also dealt with Maassen’s Corvette to earn a place on the podium. Meanwhile, Ramos’ car pitted and came back out onto the track in second as the team’s strategy worked to perfection.
On lap 70, Negraõ capped a fine day’s racing by getting past Fässler and taking the win. In third, Bertolini also was poised to overtake the Swiss driver and come home for a one-two finish but the clash with Gollin at turn 9 forced him to pit with a damaged left rear tyre and lose three positions.
Bertolini/Bartels now lead the Drivers’ series by six points over Hezemans/Gollin. Over in the Teams’ championship, Vitaphone Racing head Phoenix Carsport Racing Corvette by 21.5 points.
