The session took place in the afternoon at Portimao ahead of round seven of the FIA GT1 World Championship. The race will be held at the Algarve circuit on Sunday.

After trying out new set ups in the morning's free practice, the Bernoldi/Ramos crew switched back to their original set up. The move paid off straight away as they posted a time of 1:43.515, just 82 thousandths off the lap set by the No.5 Matech with Mutsch/Westbrook on board.

Bartels/Bertolini, in the No.1 Maserati from Vitaphone Racing Team, claimed sixth but the two Maseratis fielded by Triple H Team Hegersport are further back with Mayr-Melnhof/Pier Guidi (fifteenth) and Heger/Mueller (seventeenth).

Official qualifying will be run tomorrow, Saturday 18 September, at 12.15 (Italian time). The Qualifying Race, when the first points of the weekend of the Portuguese weekend will be awarded, is timed for 17.45 Italian time.

The Maseratis performed brilliantly in both sessions at the Algarve circuit and are confident going into Sunday's race.
In the morning's free practice, the Bartels/Bertolini duo took second place in the No.1 Maserati MC12 N.1 fielded by the Vitaphone Racing Team. The other crews were a little further back with the stand-out display put in by the No.34 Maserati MC12 from Triple H Team Hegersport. On board was the first-time pairing of Pier Guidi/Mayr-Melnhof.
