Thanks to this position, tomorrow (Sunday, May 2) the reigning champions will start off from the third position in the Championship Race. They have also climbed four points in the driver's rankings.

The other Vitaphone Racing Team racing pair, Bernoldi/Ramos, are on the rise with the MC12 No. 2. After having started off in thirteenth place, they were able to move forward and ended the race in ninth place despite contact while passing the Lamborghini No. 24 in the last few minutes of the race. This caused some damage on the back of the MC12.

It was an unfortunate day for Triple H Team Hegersport's Maseratis: Bobbi/Longin's No. 34 spun around soon after the start of the race and lost ground with respect to its adversaries. After a long chase to make up for lost time, the Italian/Belgian pair ended the race in sixteenth place. Twenty minutes into the race, Heger/Margaritis's No. 33 was forced to return to the pits to replace a spark plug that affected its performance.

Maserati Corse's technical director Maurizio Leschiutta: "If car No. 7 had not made three pit stops, we would now have the podium filled with only Aston Martins. This is a bit worrisome because it means there is a lack of balance in the championship".

The Championship Race will be held tomorrow, Sunday, 2 May, from 3:15 pm to 4.15 pm (local time).
