Pietro Zumerle enjoyed a perfect weekend as he made a return to the Trofeo. The driver from Verona ran two very different but equally successful races. In the first he profited from the black flag shown to Sundberg to build up a lead over the pack. He went on to cross the finish line ahead of a consistent Paolo Necchi and a combative Sergio Rota.
In the second race he tried to race into a lead but then had to battle with Rota. His pressure forced the Bergamo driver into an error, opening the door for Zumerle to take the chequered flag and a splendid one-two. Behind him came Emanuele Smurra and a tenacious Paolo Necchi.
The result allowed Zumerle to re-open the title race as Brno was unkind to overall leaders Goldstein/Sundberg. Their lead is now just a point over Zumerle.
