He finished seventh and third but it is the second placing that maybe reflects Wauters' true potential.

"Coming seventh in the first session is not bad but I could have done better with a different strategy. After two laps I was called back to the pits to check the tyre pressure. It turned out to be okay but once I went back out onto the track I found that the advantage of having new tyres had vanished. So, I pushed hard for a couples of laps, climbed up into fourth and then all I did was try to preserve the tyres for the race so I pulled into the pits. Unfortunately, three drivers beat my time and so I placed seventh.

I wasn't too bothered with the performance as it was my first qualifying session in the car and I am still getting to know it.

I learnt a few lessons from the first session and got more out of the tyres in session 2, managing not to run too many laps. This should mean that I will still have a bit of grip at the end of the race and so be able to go for a podium finish".
