Kuppens eyes the title
He mentioned it more than in interviews, at press conferences and when chatting informally: "This is my circuit". Kuppens lived up to the billing at Sonoma and collected two wins in three races. He only missed out on a probable clean sweep when he punctured in Race 1.
Naming the circuit after him would probably be too much but dedicating him a curve might be appropriate! It was clear that this was his weekend. After winning the European title, the Belgian now has his eyes on the world crown.
Things are looking tougher for the chasing pack: Renaud is sitting on a 24 point lead over his closest rivals, Fascicolo/Sernagiotto, with 42 up for grabs in Shanghai. As the old saying goes: anything can happen. Now it is down to the two Italians to try to catch and overtake the leader.
Simoni/Ragazzi have an outside shot at the title as they are 30 points off the lead, as is Swiss Team's Andrea Dromedari, 32 points down.
